Music

Last night was one of the few times that I was able to slow down and relax for a while. I took out my MP3 player and listened to it for about an hour. I listened to The Who, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and other music from the late sixties and seventies. I've never been into rap and after hearing some great classic rock, I'm left to wonder where music is heading. Classic rock has survived for forty to fifty years. I wonder if rap will do the same or if it'll be a passing fad like disco. Will rock as we know it even exist in twenty years? While I do believe that my opinion of rap is simply an opinion, I feel like its leading music in a strange new direction. A large amount of rappers don't sing, they don't play instruments, its more like reciting angry poems with music and random sound effects to back them up. Will the youth now be embarrassed of liking rap as the youth of the seventies try to block out the fact that they wore bell bottoms and Afros? I try to be open minded, realizing that music changes often with or without the immediate approval of everyone but I feel like its more of a branch off of music instead of music itself. I'm wondering what defines music now and how it'll change in the next thirty years or so.
